The trail of the plane wreckage
at the sulfur mine
If you are looking for a unique and challenging hike with a guide in Guadeloupe, the trail of the plane wreck on the slopes of Soufrière is for you!
This hike is a true experience, with very original sections in the undergrowth.
Magnificent views of the Soufrière volcano and the Petit Cul-de-Sac Marin.
A bit of history: on September 9, 1971, a CARIB WEST AIRWAYS DOUGLAS R4D-6 (DC3) registered 8P-AAC was flying from Trinidad to Canefield Airport in Dominica. While the flight was diverting to Raizet Airport in Guadeloupe due to a late arrival and the lack of night-time runway lighting in Dominica, the aircraft never reached Pointe-à-Pitre because it crashed into the slopes of La Soufrière volcano.
