An escape between land, sea and history in Guadeloupe
The Coulisse Trail is a guided hike starting in Trois-Rivières, Basse-Terre, that blends tropical nature, historical heritage, and natural beauty. This little-frequented route is one of Guadeloupe's best-kept secrets.
From the very first steps on this trail, the rainforest takes over. The Coulisse River, the final section of the Petit-Carbet River, has carved its way through the volcanic rock over the centuries, creating a series of natural waterfalls, small crystal-clear pools, and rock slides. An ideal setting for families and nature lovers alike.
What makes this trail truly unique in Guadeloupe is the presence of Amerindian petroglyphs, preserved in their original natural environment. These petroglyphs bear witness to the island's occupation by the Arawak people, long before European colonization. Along the way, you will also discover the remains of an old sugar mill and a watermill that was once used to grind sugarcane—a powerful testament to Guadeloupe's history.
In the background, the Saintes archipelago is revealed between the trees, offering an unforgettable panorama of the Caribbean Sea.
Suitable for children as young as 6, this hike is ideal for a first experience in the Guadeloupean rainforest. A few technical sections add a bit of spice to the route without making it difficult. The entire hike is led by your local guide, ensuring you can fully enjoy every discovery in complete safety.
